Saif Ali Khan was born to an ex cricketer and the Nawab of Pataudi- Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and a very prominent actress Sharmila Tagore. He has a younger sister Soha Ali Khan who is an actress. Saif spent most of his decisive years in a boarding school in England and also did his graduation from Winchester College, which is located in England.

For a few years after making his debut, Saif didn't taste much professional success in Bollywood but on personal front he got close with actress Amrita Singh, who was over 10 years older than him. They subsequently got married. But in 2004, they separated after 14 years of marriage and two children.

Saif became hot property after the release of Farhan Akhtar's Dil Chahta Hai with Aamir Khan, Akshaye Khanna and Dimple Kapadia as co-stars. His name is now taken along with the other two Khan's (Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan) of Bollywood industry, which itself spells his uprising status in the industry. His villainous role as Langda Tyagi in Omkara, the Indian adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello, gave him critical applause.

Saif Ali Khan was dating an Italian woman Rosa for quite some time before he started dating Kareena Kapoor. Though Saifeena (as Saif and Kareena are known together) have acted in a movie titled Tashan which didn't do well at the box office but they are still considered as one of the hot couples of the bollywood industry with tremendous mass appeal.
